Mac Woodsmen show off their chops this fall

Mac Woodsmen show off their chops this fall

With two of four competitions under their belt, the Mac woodsmen and women have made their mark in the Canadian Intercollegiate Lumberjacking Association (CILA).

The fall season kicked off with a trip to the University of New Brunswick, where the Women’s A team won top honours placing first in eight of 14 events. Demonstrating exceptional team work, the MAC squad were especially strong in the team events winning; crosscut, swede saw and pulp toss and placing third in log roll.

Individual wins belonged to Jessica Rouleau in super swede, Joséanne Naud in single buck and accuracy cut and Laura Levebvre in kettle boil. Ketsia Croteau sprinted to second place in pole climb. In the doubles' events Ketsia Croteau and Eliane Wubbolts won first place in quarter split.

Mac’s Men's A team faced tough competition against Dalhousie and Maritime College but still placed a solid third overall. Notable performances in were in super swede (Alex Dohmen, 3rd), underhand chop (Dominic Provencher/Philip Gauthier, 2nd), single buck (Dominic Provencher, 2nd) team crosscut (2nd) and quarter split (Michael Kessler, Olivier Lamarre, 1st).

Our men and women’s rookie teams had their first taste of competition and came home with some much needed experience.

The second meet of the season took place at Fleming College in Lindsay Ontario, where our Women’s A-team once again took top honours, earning 1248 out of a possible 1400 points. Championships are won with consistency and the women dominated taking six of 14 events. Team wins included crosscut, log deck and swede saw with a second place in pulp toss. Individual first place efforts belonged to Joséanne Naud (single buck) and Jessica Rouleau (super swede).  Ketsia Croteau & Eliane Wubbolts won doubles quarter split.

Our Men’s A-team placed third overall.  Notable efforts were second place in underhand chop, log deck, single buck and third place finishes in crosscut, pulp throw and swede saw.

The Men’s B team showed much improvement over the last meet, placing higher than the Men’s A in three events and staying close to the leaders in many other events.
