All You Need to Know About the Stewart Sports Complex

General Information

The Stewart Sports Complex features a gymnasiumFitness Centre, locker rooms and Smart Workout Studios. We also have the Mac Arena, two outdoor fields (Watson and McEwen), outdoor gym, outdoor sand volleyball court and Paddle Mac

Be sure to bring a pair of gym shoes - clean and dry footwear use in the gym and fitness center keeps the equipment free of salt, sand and gravel and helps maintain a good functioning machines.

What does the Athletics fee, that I pay as part of my tuition, cover?

The Athletics fee funds the running of the Sports Complex at the Macdonald and downtown campuses including the programming and services like sports, recreation and the varsity program and includes all expenses related to heating, lighting and cleaning. All students are considered members of the Stewart Sports Complex, which means you have free access to the gym, Fitness Centre and all outdoor facilities as well as free use of select pieces of equipment like balls and some training equipment.

What do I have to pay for?

There are user fees for facility rentals, at Paddle Mac, and intramurals sports. 

How do I find my way around the Stewart Sports Complex?

The Stewart Athletic Complex houses the gymnasium, Fitness Centre, locker rooms and Smart Workout Studios. The Mac Arena is located on the north-western part of the Mac/Jac campus and the fields are on the western part of the Mac campus.

Basement level: Fitness Centre, warm up area, smart workout studios, locker rooms, lockers

Upstairs: Gym

Can I come to the gym and do my own thing?

Sure. We have open gym times when activity areas are available for free use. Look at the Rec Activities schedule for a list of drop in recreational hours or feel free to use any of the gym and fields if the schedule indicates that nothing is booked.

What about if I want to play a pickup game of soccer or basketball?

We have drop in times for soccer, badminton, volleyball, basketbal and more. Check the Rec Activities schedule for an up to date list of hours and activities.

Do I need to bring my own sports equipment?

The administrative office loans out equipment like basketballs. volleyballs, badminton racquets and birds, but you need to bring your specialized equipment.

Where can I keep my sports gear?

You can rent a locker for a semester or full year and keep your gear at the gym. Or, you can bring your gear and your own lock and put your stuff in a locker designated for day use. Day lockers must be emptied and locks removed at the end of every day.

How do I sign up for intramurals?

Our on-line system facilitates registration for intramural teams, the purchase of community Fitness Centre memberships and lockers. Payment is by credit card only.

You can also register in person in the Administrative office located at the entrance to the Sports Centre. Cash, credit and debit are accepted.

What do I do if I have a question or complaint?

Our doors are always open so drop into administrative offices to speak to members of the Athletics and Recreation staff. You can send your questions or complaints to our email address.
